TV News: HGTV, Food, DIY among channels returning — AT&T U-verse and Scripps Networks have resolved their three-day-old carriage dispute, bringing HGTV, Food, DIY, Cooking and Great American Country back to U-verse’s 2.7 million subscribers.

For the second time, the Food Network’s web site has inadvertently revealed the winner of The Next Food Network Star early. Six weeks ago, winner Aarti Sequeira’s name was included in a list of “our chefs,” Food Network Humor reported at the time.

American Idol 10′s judging panel will be announced by mid-September, when their round of the auditions begin, but no deals have been signed with new judges or with producer Nigel Lythgoe yet, an executive just announced to TV critics gathered in Los Angeles. Reports and conversation here among journalists suggest Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will replace Ellen DeGeneres and Simon Cowell, and perhaps Kara DioGuardi. Still, there was no official word.

Fox says no contracts signed for new American Idol judges, but dodged questions say a lot

Television critics, including me, voted overwhelmingly to add a category for reality television to their awards next summer at the Television Critics Association meeting yesterday in Los Angeles. The first award will be given next summer for a show broadcast this year. The category, however, will be called “unscripted entertainment,” not “reality TV,” because of an apparent uncomfortableness with the stigma associated with the term, which suggests the trashier shows rather than the excellent ones….
