The Amazing Race 17 debuts in less than two weeks, and based upon an awesome clip from the show, it has potential. Alas, the show will once again not be filmed in high definition, even though its host–like most viewers–thinks it should be.

During the Stand Up To Cancer telethon on Friday, Survivor Africa winner Ethan Zohn appeared with So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley and The Biggest Loser host Alison Sweeney to announce that the Fox and NBC shows, along with ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition were joining with CBS and creating fundraising teams. As expected and reported back in late July, Kara DioGuardi is out as a judge on American Idol after two seasons. In a statement released to by Fox, she said, “I felt like I won the lottery when I joined American Idol two years ago, but I feel like now is the best time to leave Idol.

Jennifer Lopez, who was reportedly being added as a new judge for American Idol 10, may not be joining the show after all, as a report says her demands were too much for Fox. “Her demands got out of hand. Fox had just had enough,” an anonymous source told People.

American Idol 10′s judging panel will be announced by mid-September, when their round of the auditions begin, but no deals have been signed with new judges or with producer Nigel Lythgoe yet, an executive just announced to TV critics gathered in Los Angeles. Reports and conversation here among journalists suggest Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will replace Ellen DeGeneres and Simon Cowell, and perhaps Kara DioGuardi. Still, there was no official word.
