Besides giving Russell Hantz and Rob Mariano a chance to redeem themselves and win Survivor again for a third and fourth time, respectively, the CBS reality competition has introduced a major twist that gives voted off contestants a chance to return to the game. Thus, redemption seems to be the likely theme for season 22, which could even be called Survivor: Redemption Island, though that’s an educated guess

For some time now, Survivor has minimized the survival part of the game in exchange for strategy, and that’s mostly been okay. The relatively recent decline of the number of challenges, however, has led to an even higher percentage of strategizing, and an episode like last night’s–when we had two back-to-back episodes in one, basically–highlights that there’s a tipping point.

Survivor Samoa airs its final Thursday episode tonight, and concludes with a two-hour finale and a one-hour reunion on Sunday. It’s time, then, to look at the remaining contestants, and see how they lived up to the strategies they outlined to me pre-season, and how much their likeablity was a predictor of their success. First, my pre-season rankings held up really well.

Jordan Lloyd won Big Brother 11 after receiving five of the seven votes, including the (irrelevant) one cast by viewers, who voted more than 11 million votes. Natalie Martinez received Russell and Kevin’s votes, but since Jordan was up against Natalie and the jury had turned toxic toward the teenager, Jordan’s win wasn’t a surprise. What was a surprise, though, is that Ronnie said Natalie was 24, not 18.
